Project Overview
Start with the customer's real production requirement
This case study is based on an operational 500-liter-per-hour reverse osmosis project in Angola. The system was configured according to the customer’s production requirements, an influent TDS of 325 ppm, and a single-phase 220 V/50 Hz power supply.
Customer Requirement
Intended for commercial use in the sale of sachet water.
Rated water treatment capacity: 500 liters per hour
Operates 15 hours per day
Electrical specifications: Single-phase 220V/50Hz
Skid-mounted design with casters on the bottom
Easy to maintain; consumables are simple to replace
Engineering Focus
The total dissolved solids (TDS) content of the influent alone is insufficient to determine a complete treatment solution. When determining pretreatment, recovery, and membrane configuration, hardness, alkalinity, silica, iron, chlorine, microbial status, and the required final water quality standards should also be considered.
A comprehensive assessment needs to be made by combining existing water quality testing information with factors such as water color and taste.

Treatment Process
Treatment Logic for 325 ppm Feed Water
The RO section is designed around the complete water chemistry, required product-water quality, operating hours and production demand—not TDS alone.
Pre-treatment
Employing six 5-micron PP cotton filter cartridges [with optional replacement of corresponding numbers of UTO or CTO cartridges], this system reduces particulate matter in the water before the high-pressure pump and membrane section. The filter cartridge ratings and housing size selection are designed to protect downstream equipment.
Reverse Osmosis
This method reduces dissolved salt content and produces purified water that is safe for direct drinking. Two VONTRON ULP-4040 series membranes are used.
Post-Treatment
In accordance with the water quality standards and hygiene requirements for food and drinking water, we have added an ultraviolet disinfection system in the final stage of the production process to further disinfect the water, remove bacteria and microorganisms, and thus ensure water safety.
Storage / Supply
Balance production demands and provide raw materials for the filling machine's production process. Select appropriate tank volumes, materials, level control, and pressure distribution based on the operating plan.
System Configuration
What the 500 LPH System Should Document
In this project, the core component brands and materials used in the reverse osmosis system
01
Raw Water Pump*
Because the customer’s raw water pressure is less than 0.2 MPa, an additional raw water pump is needed to provide water power to the RO system [optional].
02
Cartridge Filter
Equipped with six 20-inch, 5-micron precision PP cotton filter cartridges and UPVC filter housings. [Can be replaced with the corresponding number of UTO and CTO filter cartridges]
03
High-Pressure Pump
A SHIMAGE brand reverse osmosis pump is used, matched to the 500 L/h permeate requirement and the calculated RO operating pressure.
04
RO Membranes
Choose the VONTRON 4040 ULP series module, which is equipped with two RO membrane modules.
05
Product-Water Tank
Select appropriate capacity and materials based on peak production periods and hygiene requirements. (Customer prepares these materials themselves.)
06
Final Treatment
Considering the food processing technology, a UV disinfection system is used at the end for secondary water disinfection. Alternatively, an ozone disinfection system can be used instead.
07
Control & Monitoring
It can achieve automatic flushing, monitoring and alarm functions, and is used to control conductivity, pressure, flow rate and liquid level.
